Whether you`re planning a wedding to remember or a romantic renewal of vows, you`ll want the setting to be perfect for your big day. And with its jaw-droppingly beautiful landscape, soft sandy beaches, clear turqouise waters and breathtaking sunsets; not to mention the year-round sunny weather; it`s hard to think of a more romantic spot than Gran Canaria. The happy couple, as well as the assembled guests, will no doubt want to linger a while on the sunkissed island, as there are no end of opportunities here for exploration and adventure as well as the irrestistable sunbathing. The Spanish-owned island boasts a wonderfully dramatic natural landscape, and guests attending a wedding or renewal of vows here can take to the waters to swim with dolphins, explore the wonders of the deep on a scuba diving excursion, or take a camel ride across the desert-like sand dunes of Las Maspalomas. Close by, Palmitos Park makes a great romantic day out or family day trip – being home to over 1,500 colourful exotic birds, beautiful butterflies and stunning tropical fish. Younger visitors won`t want to miss the crocodlile park, with its entertaining shows, or the bear, tiger, baboon and chimp enclosures. Romantic excursions including beach-hopping trips aboard fishing boats, with free tropical fruits and lunch thrown in; or a trip to the beautiful mountainside village of Teror, which lies south west of island`s capital, Las Palmas, and, at an altitude of 575 metres, offers spectacular views of this beautiful island.
The island is also rich in culture and history, an d there are no end of museums and fascinating historic buildings to explore. Many of these can be found in and around Las Palmas itself; with a case in point being the Santa Ana cathedral, which saw work begin in the 16th Century, and took a staggering 350 years to be completed. Visitors to Gran Canaria will be following in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus, who took a well-earned break here before carrying on his journey to the New World; and Las Palmas` Christopher Columbus Museum pays homage to his adventures. The Canarian Museum features exhibits relating to the pre-Spanish conquest days of the island, while the Jardin Canario, eight km from Las Palmas, is a stunning botanical garden that makes a wonderfully-relaxed day out. Las Palmas makes a good base for couples coming to Gran Canaria for a wedding or renewal of vows, as it is packed with quality restaurants and bars as well as excellent shops and cultural centres.
The numerous beaches and varied landscape make Gran Canaria popular with adventure sports enthusiasts, nature lovers and sunseekers alike, while the many bars and nightclubs, make the island a hit with a young party crowd.
Theme parks and other family-friendly activities such as snorkelling ensure all ages will be entertained on a visit to Gran Canaria, so couples can be assured that guests will be falling over themselves to attend the wedding or renewal of vows on this beautiful island.
When it comes to accommodation there are no end of choices. Gran Canaria is awash with places to stay, from lively party resorts and family-friendly hotel resort complexes to secluded villas that ensure total privacy for the romantic couple!
